Lok Satta – Heroes Wanted

I do have a question about thier 50 gurantees. They do mention about 10% added makrs for Rural students in exams. I do agree Rural poeple are not to be neglected, but coupld of things I want to question them are
    1. Isn’t it like a “reservation based on caste-creed” redefined? They should rather reduce the school fees etc.
    2. They do not have a good plan on Agriculture. Although they said they’d have 24hrs power supply to each village, they did not clearly mention about how they are going to do that and that every farmer can affford to buy it.

If I have these questions for them, where should I raise them? and to whom?

Thanks much Praveen for letting us know about this party.

  • Good points Santosh. I think I can answer #1.
Right now, if you see all reservations are based on caste/religion. It starts right from professional college admissions to getting jobs. In fact, if my memory serves me right, our great govt was planning on bringing in reservations in the private sector as well. Thank goodness, it did not happen.

If you think about it, majority of the backward classes (OBC/SC/ST) don’t even get to finish high school, well because, they are socially backward! They would rather have their kids help them with their chores than attend school, which makes complete sense to me. Most of the people who get the benefit of reservations today are kids that are already from well-to-do families. Imagine the plight of a kid coming from a poor family who unfortunately belongs to a higher caste. His chances of getting admission into a decent college are close to impossible. So, essentially we are getting back to where we came from. One section of the society we are uplifting while the other is getting pushed against the wall. What the party is suggesting is, if they can prove that they come from a poor family and do not have access to the facilities that kids from cities enjoy, then they will be granted 10 marks in 10 and 12 class exams. After that, they are on their own.

I do not have the specifics for the second question but we can very well post it on their web site. There is a forum link at the top. Also, we hold a teleconferencing session for the USA groups every weekend. You could bring up the question there as well.

  • Santosh,
